Frequency of Twin Pregnancies Following Renal Transplantation

1994

Objective: To evaluate the incidence of twin pregnancy among renal-transplanted women. Methods: A retrospective review based on three national inquiries. A computer literature search of the Medline system was done. Only reports of series were included. For statistical analysis the probability of having a twin pregnancy was assumed to be 0.012.Main Outcome Measures: Incidence of twin pregnancy in women after renal transplantation. Results: There were 7 sets of twins among 153 pregnancies reported in the national inquiry group (4.57%). Thus, the overall incidence of twin pregnancy in these women was 1 in 22 pregnancies. The frequency of twinning in series reporting pregnancies after renal trans…

Gingival hyperplasia as an early manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia. A retrospective review

2019

Background We study the prevalence of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) among patients with severe gingival enlargement. Material and Methods We retrospective reviewed the clinical records of patients with severe gingival enlargement, between 2011 and 2018. The Saxer and Mühlemann index were used to measure inflammation and gingival bleeding. The degree of dental mobility was measured by the Nyman and Lindhe technique. Results A correlation analysis was carried out to test whether there were any associations among the different variables. In the sample of 117 patients the mean gingival bleeding index was ≥3 and the degree of dental mobility ≥2.3. 1.7% of patients, with severe gingival hyperplasi…

Atypical CIDP: diagnostic criteria, progression and treatment response. Data from the Italian CIDP Database

2019

ObjectivesA few variants of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) have been described, but their frequency and evolution to typical CIDP remain unclear. To determine the frequency and characteristics of the CIDP variants, their possible evolution to typical CIDP, and treatment response.MethodsWe applied a set of diagnostic criteria to 460 patients included in a database of Italian patients with CIDP. Clinical characteristics and treatment response were reviewed for each patient. The Kaplan-Meier curve was used to estimate the progression rate from atypical to typical CIDP.ResultsAt the time of inclusion, 376 (82%) patients had a diagnosis of typical CIDP while 84 …

Contemporary Management of Struvite Stones Using Combined Endourologic and Medical Treatment: Predictors of Unfavorable Clinical Outcome

2016

Struvite stones have been associated with significant morbidity and mortality, yet there has not been a report on the medical management of struvite stones in almost 20 years. We report on the contemporary outcomes of the surgical and medical management of struvite stones in a contemporary series.A retrospective review of patients who were treated with percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for struvite stones at Duke University Medical Center between January 2005 and September 2012 identified a total of 75 patients. Of these, 43 patients had adequate follow-up and were included in this analysis. Stone activity, defined as either stone recurrence or stone-related events, and predictors of acti…

Partial versus complete removal of the infected mesh after abdominal wall hernia repair.

2017

Background: To compare the results with complete mesh removal (CMR) versus partial mesh removal (PMR) in the treatment of mesh infection after abdominal wall hernia repair (AWHR). Methods: Retrospective review of all patients who underwent surgery for mesh infection between January 2004 and May 2014 at a tertiary center. Results: Of 3470 cases of AWHR, we reported 66 cases (1.9%) of mesh infection, and 48 repairs (72.7%) required mesh explantation. CMR was achieved on 38 occasions, while PMR was undertaken ten times. We observed more postoperative complications in CMR than PMR group (p = 0.04). Three patients with intestinal fistula were reoperated in postoperative period after a difficult …

Four-year outcomes of full-arch fixed dental prostheses using CAD/CAM frameworks : a retrospective review of 15 cases

2018

The aim of this report is to analyze the clinical performance of 20 full-arch implant-supported titanium frameworks using CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology. One hundred and four implants were placed in 15 patients using a one-stage protocol. After planning the location of all implants via 3-dimensional software (NobleClinician), 4-8 implants were placed in each edentulous arch based on anatomical measurements. Twenty edentulous arches were treated with full arch implant-supported fixed dental prostheses utilizing CAD/CAM milled titanium frameworks . All patients were followed up for 48±4 months. Clinical performance of the implants and restorations …

Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma: report of five cases.

2009

Objectives: To document the clinical and histopathological characteristics of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC). To add five new cases to the literature and compare them with another published series. Cases: retrospective review of five cases with the diagnosis of BSCC of the larynx. Results: all the patients were male. They were heavy smokers and drinkers. Most of the tumours were supraglottic. Three patients presented with stage-IV disease and the other two with stage-I disease. Surgery supplemented with radiation was used in three patients, partial surgery was used in another case and radiation and associated chemotherapy in the other one. Eight neck dissections were performed, six…
